Just think of him as being happier in kitty heaven up there.
Have you read "The incredible lightness of being" where Milan Kundera says that love between humans can not be as pure and ideal as the love for a pet? His reasoning is that your love for your pet is unconditional while your love for a human isn't. I'm not sure about the love for a pet being unconditional.
